No. BookStax is an independent project by Sven Hanold and is not affiliated with, developed, endorsed or reviewed by the maintainers of BookStack. The app connects to your own server. Everything about the project itself is at bookstackapp.com.

A self-hosted BookStack server and an API token. Create the token in BookStack under your profile → API Tokens (token ID and token secret).

BookStax Pro is a one-time purchase (no subscription). It unlocks five things: editing pages without a connection (changes sync once you’re back online), three additional reader themes (Reading, Coding, Writing), a custom accent colour, one colour per server profile, and as many server profiles as you like — without Pro it’s one server. Reading, searching and online editing stay free.

Yes, full-text search and already-loaded content work offline. Editing and syncing require a connection to the server.

No. BookStax connects exclusively to your own server. The token lives in the iOS Keychain, there is no cloud and no tracking.

This was fixed in version 1.4.3 — please update the app to the latest version. If the banner keeps appearing, re-enter the token ID and secret in Settings.

Pages created in BookStack’s web rich-text editor are automatically converted to Markdown since version 1.4.3 and open normally. Updating the app resolves this.

The API token inherits your BookStack user’s permissions. If content is missing, check that user’s permissions on the server — anything they can’t see there won’t appear in the app either.

This points to lost or invalid credentials. Tap the banner to jump straight to Settings and re-enter your server URL and token.

Check the connection and that your token has write permissions. Pull the view down to refresh so the current server state is loaded.
