General questions
What do I need to use BookStax?
A self-hosted BookStack server and an API token. Create the token in BookStack under your profile → API Tokens (token ID and token secret).
What's included in the premium purchase?
Premium is a one-time purchase (no subscription) that unlocks additional themes, a custom accent colour per server and multiple server profiles.
Can I read my content without a connection?
Yes, full-text search and already-loaded content work offline. Editing and syncing require a connection to the server.
Is any data sent to the developer?
No. BookStax connects exclusively to your own server. The token lives in the iOS Keychain, there is no cloud and no tracking.
Troubleshooting
The server suddenly refuses my API token
This was fixed in version 1.4.3 — please update the app to the latest version. If the banner keeps appearing, re-enter the token ID and secret in Settings.
The editor is empty when I edit a page
Pages created in BookStack’s web rich-text editor are automatically converted to Markdown since version 1.4.3 and open normally. Updating the app resolves this.
Some books or pages are missing
The API token inherits your BookStack user’s permissions. If content is missing, check that user’s permissions on the server — anything they can’t see there won’t appear in the app either.
A login banner keeps reappearing
This points to lost or invalid credentials. Tap the banner to jump straight to Settings and re-enter your server URL and token.
Changes don't show up on the server
Check the connection and that your token has write permissions. Pull the view down to refresh so the current server state is loaded.
